Our Story

Formed in 2000 and becoming a 501(c)(3) organization in 2004, the Four Corners Community Band has been performing in Montezuma County and the surrounding area for 23 years. The Band is a non-profit, all-volunteer group of about 35 players of all ages, backgrounds, musical abilities, and occupations. We are truly a community band, blending some of the best and most enthusiastic musicians in our area. Participation is open to interested musicians who play or have played at some time at least at a high school level.

The Four Corners Community Band encourages lifelong participation in music and looks forward to the upcoming 2024 season with combined concerts with area school band, formal programs, holiday celebrations, and outdoor summer events. We reach a large variety of audiences.

Our Long Term Goals

  1. Retain a high-quality Music Director.
  2. Expand the Four Corners Community Band’s exposure in the Community.
  3. Increase band memership and retention.
  4. Procure instruments and equipment as needed and prioritized by the Steering Committee.
  5. Maintain a one-year reserve of basic operating expenses.

Recent Events

We had so much fun at our last performance.

Music Director Karen Steele

Karen Steele took over as permanent Music Director during the summer of 2022. Growing up in a musical family, Karen earned first chair clarinet at the Michigan All State Band as a high school senior and attended Arizona State University on a full-ride Band scholarship. Playing in the ASU band throughout her college career, she even played in the Rose Parade and at the Rose Bowl game in 1987 (ASU won). Graduating in 1991 with a Bachelor of Music Education degree, Karen taught band for 28 years in various Arizona schools. She also played with several community bands, including the Arizona Wind Symphony, which requires an annual audition.

As our director, Karen brings energy and enthusiasm to the players. Making music with her is fun. Here are her comments after a rehearsal in preparation for the Christmas season. “That Was AWESOME!!! (And I don’t like overusing that word.) You were all so cooperative and fantastic last night, and I am still reliving it this morning. Thanks so much for your commitment, your presence, and your enthusiasm to put my suggestions into motion! I have the best job, being up in front and hearing everyone coming together to make such terrific music!!!”
